Heraus aus der finsternis - out of the darkness

The second colaboration for ANNELIE WAGNER and me with Frankfurt’s YOUNG MUSEUM was published earlier in 2019. I wrote this story about four friends experiencing the changes in Frankfurt 1918 when the first World War ended. The Kaiser was fleeing into exile and Germany was preparing for another attempt at establishing a democracy. On same terms the next year saw the first elections open for women both to vote and be elected. A lot of activists had been working hard to achieve this in the previous decades. The Comic follows friends Käthe, Josephine, Jenny and Franziska who all come from different backgrounds but find union in their struggle against the street gangs run by boys, spreading fear and violence against girls and younger boys.

I put a lot of time into research, not only reading biographies, contemporary memoirs and history books. I went to a lot of different schools, discussing the topic of equality for girls and women with my the potential reasers. I had a lot of insight how girls and boys still are confronted with the same clichés and what they think and feel about these.

Again this comic also was translated in to the english language by PAUL RICHARDS.

I can truely say, this is the first comic that I am 100% happy about. And the critics seem to like it, too.
